“Be My Valentine” Coconut Rough Chocolates …

Be My Valentine Coconut Rough Chocolates 001

Golden Rough chocolates by Nestle always take me back to my childhood. I was born in Sydney but moved to Evans Heads in northern New South Wales in my primary school years, living there for around 4 years. For those who don’t know Evans Heads, it was a sleepy seaside town that came to life every holidays as the caravan park overflowed with visitors from all over the place looking for an idyllic summer of swimming, sand and sun. It was a great place to grow up and I have wonderful, fond memories of living there.

One of my favourite memories is walking home from school every Friday and stopping by the Milk Bar for a milkshake and a Golden Rough. The milkshake was icy cold and served in the tin cup with a candy striped paper straw that was either pink, green or yellow and both were a reward for a productive week of times tables and grammar at school. I looked forward to that Friday afternoon treat all week and I think that’s why I still have a soft spot for Golden Roughs to this day.

So with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, here’s a simple little gift with the same coconut and chocolate flavour that you can create for your loved one.  It doesn’t cost much, is lovingly hand made and says “You’re still the one”!

I’ve made these with Cadbury Dairy Milk Cooking Chocolate but white or dark chocolate works well two. This little treat takes about 10 minutes and needs only 2 ingredients. I used a heart-shaped silicon mould to make these chocolates and they peeled out so easily. Pop a couple in a cellophane bag and tie with a pretty red ribbon and your Valentine’s gift is ready to give to your loved one … do keep it in the fridge though or the chocolate may soften in our summer heat.
