Hotel Review … The Luxor, Las Vegas, USA …

The Luxor 001

Hubby and I were recently in Las Vegas in America to attend a friend’s wedding. It was held in the Chapel at Planet Hollywood and we had so much fun. Because we were going to travel so far, we decided to turn it into a bit of a holiday and I’ve had loads of requests from readers who wanted to know more about our trip, the things we did and where we stayed.

So, over time, I’ll share the details of our adventures (along with some tips) and I thought I’d start today by sharing my experience at the first hotel we stayed at … The Luxor in Las Vegas, USA.

The Luxor 002

But first, a little history about this hotel! The Luxor is a Hotel and Casino located on the southern end of “The Strip”. The resort opened in 1993 designed to look like an Egyptian pyramid with a huge Sphinx-like structure at the entrance. Two additional towers were later built bringing the total number of rooms and suites available to over 4,400 … it’s BIG!!

The other unique feature is the Luxor Sky Beam, which shoots skywards from the tip of the pyramid. It is claimed to be the strongest beam of light in the world and, on a clear night, can be seen by aircraft up to 440 km away.

The Luxor 003

This wasn’t our first time at this hotel, although it was the first time we stayed there. We originally visited The Luxor about 20 years ago where there used to be a “Nile River” themed canal ride in the foyer that travelled through various parts of the pyramid which also incorporated a copy of King Tutankhamen’s tomb from the Valley of the Kings near Egypt. I remember taking the kids on that ride when they were so little and they loved it. But this attraction was removed during a renovation which I think is a shame.

The Luxor 004

We chose to stay our first night in Las Vegas at The Luxor because we were arriving around midnight and wanted a hotel that was close to the airport, inexpensive but still a nice place to stay. Our travel agent found us a great deal for only AUS$118/night … an absolute bargain in a city where the price of hotel rooms has become more expensive over the years.

Check in was quick, efficient and smooth … just what we needed after a long flight. I must have looked exhausted and I’m sure the Front Desk staff took pity on me and upgraded us to a Tower Luxury Suite.

The Luxor 005

Our suite was in the West Tower, overlooked the neighbouring Excalibar Hotel and was huge. The décor in the suite was in keeping with the general “Egyptian” theme throughout the rest of the hotel. The entrance was tiled and featured a timber buffet with two large lamps. Beyond this was a carpeted loungeroom with a 3-seater couch, 4 individual chairs, a coffee table and a large screen TV.

The next room featured a full bar and a dining table with a further 2 chairs. These chairs matched two chairs from the loungeroom making it possible to seat 4 guests.

The third room was a large bedroom featuring a king size bed, 2 bedside tables, a second large screen TV and chair.

The final room in the suite was a gorgeous bathroom that was itself divided into 4 separate areas … a marble bench, mirror and chair; a separate toilet; a separate shower room and a separate bath area with vanity and sink.

I can’t comment on the breakfast or Casino as we didn’t experience either one but The Luxor also offers the following:

  • 24-hour Room Service
  • Retail shops
  • Nurture Spa and Salon
  • Wedding Chapel
  • Restaurants and Cafes
  • Shows
  • Nightclub and Bars
  • “Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition”
  • Meeting and Convention facilities

And the verdict: I would happily stay at The Luxor again, particularly if you were looking for more budget-friendly accommodation. The hotel is clean, comfortable, well-maintained and offers all the facilities that you’ll find at any of the hotels on The Strip. The staff were very professional, extremely polite and efficient.

It really doesn’t matter where you stay on The Strip in terms of getting around because you’ll need to walk no matter what and with “The Deuce” Bus Service stopping out the front, you can go anywhere you want. I’ll share a review on “The Deuce” Bus soon … so stay tuned!

So tell me, have you been to Vegas and, if so, where have you stayed? Did you like your hotel and what’s your opinion of “Sin City”?

Comments

  1. How fortunate to be given an upgrade. I think the price you paid per night was exceptional value. My husband is off to Vegas in a couple of weeks; I’m not sure where he’s staying. What a shame they removed the water ride – I think that’s such a Vegas thing to have in a hotel xx

    • Vegas is a “crazy” place that never seems to sleep, so your hubby should enjoy himself. It’s not quite as cheap as it used to be but there are still some great places to stay that won’t “break the bank”! Our upgrade was a lovely surprise after such a long time travelling! x

  2. I’ve been to Vegas twice (loved it both times and want to go again).
The first time I stayed a night at Circus Circus – it was a bit sad so went to the Tropicana which had a great pool.
The next time a girlfriend and I stayed at the Imperial Palace great location in the centre of the strip.

    • I did wonder what Circus Circus was like because it did seem to be a little too far north of The Strip. There are so many great places to stay and we just loved Vegas … can’t wait to go back!

  3. I have a vague memory of going to the Luxor (not staying there) as a kid. All I can remember is BIG!

    • It is so big Vanessa, but so are most of the hotels … you could spend so much time exploring each one!

  4. This looks amazing. I haven’t been but my hubby is dying to take me there. Maybe when the kids are off our hands and we can sit back and enjoy. #IBOT team
