How to Organise the Computer Printer Cables in the Office 001

I don’t know about you, but the mess and jumble of cords behind my computer in the office was driving me crazy!  It looked awful and was extremely difficult to keep clean and free of dust, so it was time to find a solution.

I visited Officeworks and found this fantastic Cable Box.  It comes in black or white and cost me $19.95.  I personally preferred the black because it matched my printer and white plastic products can sometimes yellow with age.

It was so easy to set up … simply remove the lid, run all the cables through the groove on either end, replace the lid and … ta da! … job done … and no more cable chaos!  I did wind each individual cord neatly inside the box and secured them with cable ties, however, you don’t need to do this if you don’t want to.

The base of the Cable Box has four non-slip “feet” so it won’t move around on the desk and, once the lid is on, I now had a lovely flat surface to use if I needed to create some extra storage … love that!

So tell me, do you get frustrated with the jumble of cords, especially when you have to clean?

  1. We just changed ours over from being on the floor where it was disgusting and gathered lots of dust. This is a much more sensible solution!

    • I know what you mean Lorraine and I was thrilled when I found one of these Cable Boxes … tidied things up nicely and solved my dust problem!

  2. Thanks for the info – didn’t know they existed.

Years ago when working in retail we used to split flexible hose (similar to a washing machine hose and place our data, keyboard, external hard drive and mouse into it to tidy our desks

    • That’s another great idea … love it … I don’t think it matters so much what you use as long as it tidies up the cords and makes cleaning easier.

  3. Oh my gosh, if you saw under my computer desk you would know how much I need one of these! Thanks for the hot tip 🙂

    • I know what you mean, Alicia … I was thrilled when I found this Cable Box and I think I’ll be buying a second one to deal with the “chaos” behind the TV, DVD player and Wii.

  4. Wow, love it! That’s a great idea. No more clutter and stumbling on wires!

Visiting you from Wordless Wednesday! Feel free to visit me! Thanks

    • Hi Charlotte and thanks for stopping by! My office desk now seems so much neater and free of clutter since I tidied up all those wires and cords … definitely worth the cost.

  5. I love this idea as I hate the sight of cables. I have a basket thingy I have attached underneath the desk which helps to keep our cables in order, but this would be fabulous for under our bed xx

    • This is one of the best things I’ve bought recently, Sonia and definitely the best $20 I’ve ever spent!

  6. This is a must have! Definitely needing one for our entertainment room. Cables everywhere. 🙁
